Primary schools are working with Southwark Council and the EBA on projects relating to:
- litter
- waste and recycling
- energy and biodiversity
Southwark Council is producing a whole host of supporting materials, tied in with the national curriculum, to ensure that as many schools as possible get the 'green bug'.
What happens? Schools will be invited to take part in the London Schools Environment Award, which involved devising ways to support the environment.
Many schools are already recycling paper through the Blue Box Scheme. But by entering the London Schools Environment Award they will be given lots of additional ideas on how to take responsibility for the environment. These include:
- setting up a wormery for organic waste
- making their own recycled paper using a special recipe
- introducing a swap-shop for toys and books
- making musical instruments from materials that would otherwise be thrown away.
One school has developed its garden with the emphasis on biodiversity. Another has charted rubbish on the routes to school and then run workshops on using recycleable materials creatively.
Interested? If your school would like to take part in the award and start an innovative project: Call Southwark EBA on 020 7525 2828. |
