BRASS (Business Responsibility And Southwark Students) helps students think about the role of businesses as citizens of the local Southwark community.
It engages a range of local businesses in a unique form of partnership with local schools and community bodies.
What happens? Your business is matched to either a primary or secondary school - this depends on the nature of your business and your own personal requests. Your only commitment is approximately five hours of your time (spread over around two months).
The aims
- To increase young people's awareness of the role of business in the local Southwark community; enhance their skills and employability.
- To improve the understanding of local businesses about what is expected of them and how they are perceived locally; widen recognition of the value of businesses as local citizens.
- To foster new cross-sector partnerships in the local community, designed to enhance local prosperity and welfare
Training There is no need for any specific training. However, a good knowledge of your business operations and general employee roles and responsibilities is desirable.
Current partners Current BRASS partners include:

Citizenship BRASS supports the teaching of citizenship within the National Curriculum. Young people need support and encouragement to help them develop values, attitudes and opinions that inform their view of the community in which they live, their rights and responsibilities and how they are able to become involved and make a difference to the world around them. These are important elements of Citizenship.
