City Careers Open House

Southwark Education Business Alliance has an exciting opportunity for young people. Companies in the city are opening their doors to primary schools across London funded by City of London Corporation.

The aim of the programme is to:

• Introduce pupils to Professional Services sector so they gain an understanding of the working environment, the range of job opportunities available and the routes in to these jobs.

• Give young people the opportunity to meet employees from the working world

• Increase the pupils’ awareness, interest and enthusiasm for working in the City

• To be fun and educational Visits would last 3-4 hours Example visit

1. Introductory presentation – delivered by EBA and staff from the business

2. Tour of the building

• Students split into two groups, pupils visit departments including catering, security, trading and finance where they will observe a range of roles and working environments.

• Pupils will take place in activities to demonstrate the different job roles in the building.

3. Careers carousel

• Small groups of pupils rotate between employee volunteers from different departments who speak to the pupils about their education, career paths and experiences of the world of work.

• Volunteers to be recruited from a wide range of backgrounds to demonstrate the diversity of the City and challenge stereotypes around who can do certain jobs.
