Bringing Schools and Employers Together

The Education Business Alliance (EBA) recently hosted an inspiring Careers Fair, bringing together over 200 students from five Southwark schools and ten leading employers to explore diverse career opportunities.

The event provided young people with valuable insights into industries such as law, finance, sustainability, and construction. With interactive workshops and engaging activities, students had the chance to develop their understanding of various professions and learn about different routes into employment, including apprenticeships.

Employers in attendance included LSBU Apprenticeships, Boodle Hatfield LLP, The Sustainability Group Future Plus, Norton Rose Fulbright, Dorrington PLC, Neilcott Construction Ltd, Mindshare UK, Incendium Consulting, JP Morgan, and OCS. Their representatives led a series of dynamic sessions designed to inspire and inform.

Engaging Activities & Industry Insights

Students took part in a range of hands-on activities tailored to their career interests. Highlights included:

  • How to apply for an Apprenticeship – Guidance on securing apprenticeships and understanding their benefits.
  • Introduction to job roles in a law firm & legal scenarios – An insight into different careers in the legal sector and problem-solving exercises.
  • Sustainability quiz – Testing students’ knowledge on environmental responsibility and corporate sustainability.
  • Jaffa Cake Legal Challenge – A fun yet thought-provoking debate on whether Jaffa Cakes are legally considered cakes or biscuits, designed to develop analytical thinking.
  • Careers in property – Building a Mega City – An interactive session exploring the complexities of urban development and careers in the property sector.

Industry Experts Inspire Future Professionals

Throughout the day, employers engaged with students to share their expertise and advice on career progression. One employer highlighted the value of the event, saying, “Our favourite part was helping students to have a better understanding of the different industries and career opportunities available for their future.”

The event successfully encouraged students to think critically about their futures and the skills required to thrive in the modern workforce. By connecting young people with professionals across a variety of sectors, the EBA continues to play a crucial role in shaping career aspirations and equipping students with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions.
